Learn to move your body better at our friendly Pilates studio in the heart of the Inner West. We offer small group classes on the mat, and studio sessions in private and semi-private form. We have created an environment where people come to take care of their bodies under the guidance of highly trained instructors, and we are proud to welcome people of all ages, sizes and fitness levels into our space. We are passionate about sharing our knowledge of the human body, empowering our clients to better understand their bodies, and inspiring them to move more through life.
Our mission is provide a safe space for people to move their bodies without fear of judgement or critisism, a place where they can be comfortable, and can grow to understand and care for their bodies more effectively. At the same time we encourage our clients to take the reigns of responsibility for their health and wellbeing, through implementation of home exercise programmes, reading recommendations, and referrals within our network of allied health professionals.
We firmly believe that everything that has happened in our lives up until now is stored in our bodies in some way- it’s through movement that we can process and move through stagnation- whether in a physical, emotional or spiritual form. We consider Pilates a powerful tool through which anyone can achieve freedom and joy through movement, and a body fit for modern day living.
What Do We Offer?
Semi-Private Studio Sessions
Private Studio Sessions
Pilates for Seniors
- These classes designed with our older population in mind: Focused on improving cognitive function, concentration, balance, bone density and strength. Through movement we aim to build resilience for the future and maintain, if not improve, quality of life. Click here for more info.
Pilates for Osteopenia and Osteoporosis
- Pilates is fantastic for clients who wish to improve their bone density and reduce their risk of fractures. In the studio we retrain neuromuscular patterns to avoid movements that can be potentially harmful to the osteoporotic body. Sessions will also include low impact weight bearing exercises, and resistance against weights, band and springs, to encourage strengthening the joints and the supporting muscles.
Pre and post natal Pilates
-Pre-natal Pilates is delivered via studio sessions at Room For Movement, these incorporate Pilates movement, breathing techniques and myofascial release techniques designed to facilitate the body through the changes of pregnancy and preparation for birth. Building on the groundwork laid down in the pre-natal stages, our post natal Pilates sessions focus on reeducating the pelvic floor, reducing abdominal separation, and rebuilding strength steadily and safely.

Corporate mat classes
Our corporate mat classes run through our sister company ‘Pilates at Work’. We provide fully qualified instructors for mat classes in the workplace, allowing participants to move their bodies and counteract the effects of sitting without leaving the office! All you have to do is find a room, and pick a day and time that works for your staff and we do the rest.
All of our instructors are certified by Polestar Pilates. Considered “the gold standard for Pilates Instructor Certification all around the world” the course offers a supportive network of mentors and studios to support students through their training.
Room For Movement is proud to be a part of this network of instructors and studios and have Rachael and Pamela as mentors on the Polestar Pilates education team. As a result you might meet a Polestar apprentice teacher at the studio. Under supervision at all times you’ll meet them while they observe the teacher in a session, or while doing a practice session for themselves. As they get to the more advanced stages of their training you might have some one on one attention from an apprentice instructor as they progress into teaching some of the Polestar exercise repertoire.
Our studio is affiliated with the ‘Center for Women’s Fitness’. Over the course of 25 years the Center has developed a method for training the body safely and effectively through the pre and post natal stages of a woman’s life. Our instructors are certified ‘Pre and Post-Natal Pilates Specialists’ through the Center’s qualification process, and we implement their method for ‘Diastatsis Recti’ recovery (abdominal separation recovery) into our post natal studio sessions.

Our approach to Pilates is more of a contemporary one, but we still base our teaching around the guiding principles of Joseph Pilates who developed the method in the early 20th Century. Looking around our studio you’ll see a mixture of classical Pilates exercises, what we call ‘pre-Pilates’ exercises, functional movement exercises, myofascial release techniques, and maybe even some work borrowed from Yoga.
Pilates is probably most well known for it’s ‘core strengthening’ benefits but we believe there is far more to ‘core strength’ than abdominal strength. We use the Pilates repertoire to strengthen the deeper muscles of your body and create mobility in areas of restriction, along with myofascial release techniques that allow for release of unwanted stressors on the bodies structures. Together, these create new movement patterns in the body, relieving tightness, improving balance, posture, and building resilience.
Although we know you’ll feel good after every session we don’t offer a quick fix of any kind. Sadly there’s no shortcut to better movement and changing the way in which you use your body requires patience and commitment. We encourage all of our clients to take charge of this opportunity for change, with it comes a renewed sense of wellbeing, less aches and pains, and a better understanding of your own body.
